Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar was established by Cornell University in partnership with Qatar Foundation of Education, Science and Community Development in January 2001.​​

As the first medical school in Qatar and the first American institution to offer a Doctor of Medicine degree overseas, WCM-Qatar shares WCM’s tripartite mission for excellence in education, patient care and research.​

The school offers 6-year and 4-year MD programs along with a 2-year pre-med program, matriculating over 300 students from more than 30 countries annually. Teaching is provided by Cornell and Weill Cornell faculty and includes local physicians who hold WCM appointments.​​

WCM-Qatar is also affiliated clinically with Hamad Medical Corporation and Sidra Medicine in Qatar.
